NAHBS 2012 Sacramento

Cycle Monkey had a busy three days in Sacramento during the 2012 edition of NAHBS. This year's show was the biggest to date with over 8100 attendees and 171 exhibitors. Friday was busy, Saturday was very busy, and Sunday was steady. There were many beautiful bikes on display, though we didn't get to see the whole show because it was difficult to get away from the booth. The Schlumpf and Rohloff cutaway models that we had on display attracted a steady crowd of onlookers, and the two bikes we had mounted on trainers offered visitors a chance to try out the Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14Schlumpf Speed Drive, and Gates Carbon belt drive system.
We had two bikes on display: 1) A Retrotec city bike prototype with a Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14, Gates Carbon Drive belt system, Magura Marta brakes, Schmidt SON28 dynamo hub and Edelux headlight, Brooks Saddle, and Velo Orange handlebar, stem, seatpost, cranks, and rims. Curtis Inglis built a pair of custom racks to go with the frame and the whole thing was painted light blue and off-white with mostly polished silver parts. The bike took second place in the Gates belt drive contest. 2) A Calfee bamboo adventure bike with a chain driven Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14, Schlumpf Speed Drive, Rockshox Reba suspension fork, Schmidt dynamo hub, and Busch & Mueller lights. This bike had a built in a bamboo rack and custom modifications to the fork to accept fenders. Thanks to everyone who stopped by the booth. It was nice to put faces to voices and/or email addresses as well as catch up with friends. If you couldn't make the show this year, mark your caldendars for next year's NAHBS show in Denver. You can also check out the Retrotech prototype at our Booth at the New Amsterdam Bicycle Show in NYC on April 28th and 29th.
